I noticed by "coincidence" that I still own a 10 year old .com domain. The domainname is rather generic (although it shares some resemblances with a "well known" brand, and that's probably the reason why this domainname gets 480 search queries a month. Does a domain like this have any value for seo purposes? Maybe I could make a simple website on it, link it to some of my websites? It never had a website or something, it has one (!) backlink and an exact search delivers 593 search results (mostly whois entries).
Yes it does - the value of it can be seen from the traffic coming in! Try developing a website on it and see what happens. I developed a 10 year old domain myself and it was taking off until I realized it was the name of a company and dropped it because I didn't want any trouble. Oh wait, yours closely resembles a company name too - so forget what I said - DON'T develop it. Just wait for the next best 10 year old domain to come your way and try developing THAT Hope I helped!
It does have some SEO value. SEO is a mix of many elements and yes domain age can give you that extra edge if other more important stuff was all in top notch condition.
If it is online for 10 years, yes it has an effect but if you change the niche and all of the content it is like you are starting from 0.
It is not like starting from zero. It doesnt matter what kind of a website you develop on that 10 year old domain. Its power will always be present and its a factor that weighs heavily in the google algorithm. Develop a good informative website and put well placed adsense on it, in about six months it may have good constant traffic and merit upgrades.
As many said, yes, it does. Domain names are like wine. The older they are, more useful they would be.
