does 404 page is indexed by google?

    If it returns a 404 header it won't be indexed. Otherwise it will.

    If it returns a 404 header response it won't be indexed. If it doesn't have that, then it will be indexed.

    if a page is giving 404 error (not found error), there is no reason google to index that page

    I would suggest adding a custom 404 page so that Google will take that page in.

    perhaps redirecting any 404's to a site map or any other page with some value.

    my 404 page is indexed...I think that's because I created a custom one /404.html I can't remember if I put a link to it somewhere on the site

    I do not think Google will indexed this page,it have no value anyway.Google own indexed those it think is valueable.
