Ok, i just recently submitted my site to a wide range of directories, and it cost me over $200. Is this really a good way to spend money? Is it going to help? I just feel like I could have put the money to better use.
The directory you want in is DMOZ. Suspect the 200 spent could have been better spent on other resources. Read the posts and evaluate the ideas presented. You will soon pick up on the names of the knowledgeable posters. Shannon
DMOZ is of course the first place I go when I have a new site online. Then I try to figure out the fastest way to get into Google, whatever that happens to be at the time. But there are a lot of great directories out there that you can submit to. I've gone through this very forum and submitted to lots of directories. I only have two rules: 1. I'm not paying for a listing. 2. If they want a reciprocal link it's going on my links page the way I want it to. I don't want to have a page of willy nilly looking links all over the place. They put my link up formatted the way they want, and so will I. The fact is, with my current site I've probably submitted and been accepted in nearly 20 directories besides DMOZ. I'm already starting to see traffic from many of them. I'm not even in dmoz yet. Besides, all those links start to add up!
$200 for a link is not worthy unless that site does have very good PR and its category really relates to your site. But I think a link worth $200 is too high I rather join the Coop and buy weights or go for DMOZ express listing.
