Not using it, but signed up and will check it out. I know it kind of defeats the purpose, but I chose not to get notices via text messaging because it cost me like 10cents per text message. I don't like paying extra money so I chose not to get messages via my phone. Also they only cover Los Angeles and San Diego for southern California, but I'm in between those. Maybe with this Google acquisition maybe they will add more cities. Thanks for the heads up. Do you enjoy using it, and do you use it often?
longcall911 - Hah - I'm afraid I'd have the same problems - I'm not exactly a social butterfly Such Great Heights - I'm not a big fan, just thought it was interesting, I have freinds that use it here in Phx, but I like my privacy, announcing to everyone where I am is a little to 'Out of the shell' for my tastes
Thats a sweet site. Don't understand way they only have select cites. How bout just a service thats does that with one message. "Kyle is at the Crab Trap Beach, give him a call 555-5555" Google is going to own the world. The first time I want microsoft to rise the competion to prevent a mononoply.
After a quick glance it seems like it would be an ideal tool for the prostitution / drug-dealing "industry".....
Wow - good point - The text messaging pagers, black berries etc are fueled by that crowd seems like - this would be great for some pimp - hah oh thats terrible
I kinda made a joke about it, but it is rather disturbing. After all, right now dru-dealers / prostitutes tend to hang out in a specific geographic location so their customers can find them. But with this tool, they can just be in a general area (within 10 blocks, say) and Dodgeball would then allow them to find each other. It would be a nightmare for law enforcement to try to track these people under these conditions. Anyway, I was concerned about it and wrote Dodgeball directly to give them a heads-up.
this kind of thing is all the rage in Japan - hasn't caught on too much in the states yet. I like the idea in general - if I was a decade younger. I can't imagine the people I would be directed to now .
I didn't know it was here in Japan - but then I don't have one of those all-singing-all-dancing TV-playing Video-recording (yes, the latest models can do this) cell phones, so that it probably why.
I remember back in high school only two kinds of people had pagers... the candyman (drug dealers) and gadget freaks, like me. Oh those were the days... got a page, have to go pull over to a payphone and make a call... the world has changed.
