I always thought it was a no-brainer to have my affiliate links open in a new window, to keep users on the site. Lately I've changed this so all links open in the original browser. I know it's a user satisfaction issue but I wonder if it may be decreasing affiliate sales. Once they leave my site, they don't have a chance to click other affiliate links. Have there been any user studies on this? Any other opinions are appreciated. Thanks.
I find a new window works best.I have tested both methods. Just as an afterthought I also use nofollow on the links.
Some people like it, some people don't. It depends. I've read somewhere, if you open a new window, it's as if you're insulting them for not knowing how to use the "Back" button to go back to your site. But that's just what I read ... this thing needs testings, data data data ...
