What do you do with your adsense? Do you wrap the text around the ad or do you let it stand out (no text to the left or right of the ad). I'm going to put adsense (the large rectangle) on my coming free article site and wondered what might be best. Wrapped ads might get me higher click-thru's but I think it will annoy webmasters when they select both the article text and the ad text. Ah, choices-choices. Any opinions?
I may be a loner here, but on 80% of my sites I dont bland and let ads stick out like a sore thumb. On my sites letting the ads stand out has worked best for me. I would test it several ways, for atleast 1-2 weeks straight. Each site is different in what works best. It will take time to fully test, but comparing results across 2 weeks will be much more accurate then say 2 days, the longer the better.
Hi Worldwid, Could you provide examples of your ads sticking out like sore thumbs? I understand if you don't wish to dislose one of your sites, but if you wouldn't mind making a screenshot and blanking out the web address and scribbling on the content that'd be great On my sites main page I found 2 large rectangles next to each other, right at the top works best.. just beneath the 'headline' of the page. Very 'spammy', but it brings in the maximum bucks. Pete
My site(s) use only blocks and banners, and they are placed in typical, ad spots but have no border, and the css matches the rest of the page so they blend in. I'm working on getting some traffic though, so ad placement isnt an issue for me right now.
On my sites after much testing, I found out that using two rectangle or horizontal ads worked the best, for my layout anyway. One near top, one near bottom just above my outgoing links. The top ad I blend in with content, the bottom I have it so it changes color upon page load. But, above all ads I also paste images. It takes a good 30 days or so of testing at least to see what works good on any site. I believe anyway. Because on another site, they did very poor with standing out, and On that site I have em all blended in with the content.
