Gone are Windows 95 and Windows 3.1. The oldest version that is still available is Windows 98. At this moment I'm using Windows XP 2 version made in 2002, that is 7 years old and still working for me. Ever since Windows Vista released I read countless complaints of this new version and therefore decided to stick to Windows XP. Now with Windows 7 going to be released soon, I found that it is hard for me to separate from Windows XP, in fact I want to keep it forever. What is your opinion, do you think Microsoft should keep Windows XP including their support and upgrade services?
Obviously new software needs to be created for the new technology that we have available. Windows XP can't take advantage of a lot of the new technology that has been developed recently, and upgrading will simply take too much time and effort. It's simpler to just build a new system which takes advantage of this new technology. Vista was rushed and not completely ironed out before delivery. Hopefully, Windows 7 will not have that problem. Regards, Nick
I am better off using Windows XP. I can do all my tasks thru my current OS and I dont find a reason to spend the extra bucks on upgrading.
Never change a running system. New systems has a lot of bugs and and All the years i stayed how long is possible and the software and driver exist with an old system like now XP. If windows 7 run some month or years i think vista is stabil and then i will change to vista hihihiih. But i will try next time on another comp linux. playaner
In my opinion Windows XP is still the best...but they say Windows 7 is a good OS a good combination of Vista and XP. But I am not having problem with XP.. still works good. so not yet planning to change my OS
Almost all of my complaints with vista have been resolved with win 7. The only irritation is the lack of support certain companies are providing for their software to run on 7/vista. You shouldn't have to upgrade all your software to get it to run natively on the operating system without getting a bunch of compatibility screens bitching and moaning at you. I mean we're not talking software that is older then 2006-2007 here (cough peachtree, cough quickbooks, etc, etc)
I like xp, heard too many complaints of vista, reviews are positive for w7 so far. I'll review it and give it a shot, but wouldn't drop the money for it until I can give it a good work out.
I think most people are going to wait to see if all the hype about Windows 7 is worth their hard earn money.
No, I do not want XP replaced with windows 7. I see no reason to trade in an operating system on one that uses 3 times the resources. As time passes, things get small and more efficient - everything except windows operating systems. As the years have gone by windows has grown and become more bloated. Windows 95 ran just fine with 32 megs of memory. But for some reason vista and windows 7 takes 1 gig? That is like taking a car that gets 100 miles to a gallon, and trading it in on a car that gets 10 miles to the gallon.
If this is true Microsoft has a lot of explaining to do. There is no reason that an OS needs that much memory.
I dont know if you can still download the release candidate or not, but it was free to try Win7 for a full year.
Windows 7 has a great XP virtual machine built in to it. That's a great solution to those backwards compatibility issues (just not drivers...)
At the end of the day, money drives economy. Money is made by Microsoft only if they can force people to abandon xp in favor of coughing up money for Windows 7. Those who can afford the purchase price, will pay the money and upgrade to Win 7. But in my opinion, it shouldnt be forced, it must be an option. But Microsoft will not provide free support for Windows XP. I think it had already been done this way. "retired from active service"
