Do you want to know why you are not hired?

    Hi my DP friends,

I have just spoken to a budding freelance writer in the morning and she was sharing her concerns with me. I read through one of her works so that I could advise her whether or not she should think about a career as a freelance writer. Her work is not bad and I think she pretty much stands a chance of being hired.

Well, this conversation prompted me to write an article addressing why some writers are simply not hired. Be it copywriters or content writers, some of them simply have no clues as to why they can't survive in this field. I hope this article can also help those established writers to keep on doing what they do best by knowing they are above the water.

    Here's the link:

Freelance writers: Why are you not hired?

    Have a nice day!

    Cheers,
    Chad.

This was an interesting article Chad. As a new DP member hoping to advertise my services as a content creator and feature writer, it was really helpful. Thanks

Thanks staceyjamie for the read - keep on believing in yourself if you are able to avoid those pitfalls, I am sure you will shine in the time to come!

Mate, no offense, but you really need to take a taste of your own medicine.

If all that you have to say is "don't suck, be original and stick to deadlines", then you might want to head back to the drawing board.

    Just saying.

Everyone has a right to an opinion, but this comment would have been more helpful; if you'd said what you thought Chad had missed out from the article. Rather than directing him back to the 'drawing board', explaining how this article could've been more comprehensive, or giving additional suggestions; would have been far more useful. Both to Chad and other readers.

Criticism that isn't meant to "pull someone down", is generally constructive. "No offensive mate" is simply a platitude that allows us to cover snipping comments, which for the most part; are usually just unhelpful. Granted nothing Chad said was particularly headlines news, but then neither is half of the dross you see pumped out by A-list bloggers and content creators worldwide.

I anticipate that you probably won't like or agree with what I just said, which is cool, but hey....just saying!

Chad, just keep doing your best; opinions are like a-holes.. everyone's got one : )

That's a fair point and a good challenge.

So let me do a checklist of additional points worth covering in an article like this:

    - Personal branding - how to differentiate yourself, how to project competence
    - Reputation management - best practices, how to recover from negative feedback
    - Understanding your clientele - how to secure repeat business, negotiation tactics
    - How to move up in your writing career - specialization, how to obtain high profile testimonials
    - Staying ahead of the curve - market dynamics, how to recognize trends

I could think of more, but I do have work to do.

    Cheers,

I know you're a busy guy, but if you find time to write a post that covers this stuff, I for one; will eat it for breakfast. This is all stuff that I really need to know. Thanks for taking my challenge in the the good natured spirit in which it was meant : )

If you do write this article, I'd hate to miss it..send me a link, a smoke signal; whatever

I really think there is a good discussion going on here and I appreciate Geegel's points about what could have been written. I would say yes, those stuff included would be awesome but like you, I am a busy man. It was meant to provide a few basic tips and not meant to be a full blown in-depth dissertation kind of article. After all, the article is really meant to start off a discussion and I am glad it did in the positive spirit.

I really like Stacey's points and agree that it's a fair challenge made. Kudos to Geegel too for lending his opinions to the discussion despite his busy schedule.

When I have time, I promise that these points will be covered in a version 2. Dedicated to Stacey and Geegel. :)
