Do you use web directories to find sites?

I was just wondering if any of you really use web directories instead of search engines.

 

Sometimes when I am looking for directory sites or webmaster specific topics. Not the first place I look.

 

I just use Google.

 

We use a few selective directories of course

Frog Engine

Comes into that category

Plus others always good for finding interesting sites

 

I never use directory to search for websites. Why don't use search engienes?

 

We use directories as often they spring up new and interesting sites that more often than not will not turn up on search engines as they are very focused on the search you do

We like surprises in our daily work, its fun and hey, guess what a lot of the time you come across a monetize deal too

 

Yes,I do sometimes.But I only use a few good ones.(like the ones in your sig)

 

I use Google or Yahoo but not directories....

 

The only directories I use are the directories of directories. Otherwise, strictly Google.

Though I maintain an extensive list of free and paid directories, I never search any directory for information. I rely on search engines for the most part.

However, I am aware about some friends who search niche directories when results fail to show up in the search engines.

 

Maybe we all have some sort of tunnel vision here. There are some really good niche directories out there. I have just added a subcategory called Search Feature Directory » Directories » Niche » Travel » Pictures after seeing Pictures of Places. Do you guys know any more cool directories like that one?

 

Directories are good for site discovery, finding related sites.

 

i use directory but not to find sites, i use google, yahoo or msn for this

I think it is all a matter of choice but directories certainly spring up some interesting web sites

 

Google is first choice, yahoo is second.

I actually edited a category for about a year and a half at dmoz and still never really used it for finding sites..

google is what I still use...

 

I seriously want people to use http://www.irkawebdirectory.com as a good resource, problem is that it only has 1500 listings. Sure later it'll become a good resource

Directory i browse most of the time is http://directory.v7n.com, it got some very good listings and inspire me for the categories of some of my directories.
