    It's not, not to mention the fact that older IEs (and older browsers in general) either handle poorly - or not at all - newer web technologies. However as killaklown pointed out, a lot of companies still use older legacy versions because of cost issues, and incompatibility of existing internal browser-based apps with newer navigators.

    I have ie6 and ie7 on older xp machines. Ie6 is extremely slow at handling some sites. Aside from the businesses mention not wanting to upgrade, I really don't know why the average home user would still use ie6. It's slow as heck, and really it's not any good. Ie7 and ie8 are a bit faster, but I don't think they are very good either. I used to have a cd with ie5 something or other on it. I just vaguely remember using it and not sure if I had something prior to that. I know I had some older early netscape browsers too at one time.
