In my opinion, blogs are a great way to develop your company online presence. For instance you can write a more depth particular aspects of your company and provide a more personal touch with users. On any typical company website you will find info about the company, about, services, contact and location. However, you rarely gain a feel for the company or know more about what life is like either working for/with the company or its personnel. I found with blogs you can create a platform for exchanging a promoting ideas building up interest and developing various article marketing initiatives. It also provides a base for attracting re-peat visitors to your website by providing ongoing posting of blogs to discuss relevant themes of the company and the services that it offers.
I use a blog to drive traffic to my shopping sites. I dont monetize the blog, but use it to write articles about my products/service to show i stay updated and to get a few backlinks to the shops. Doesnt bring in a lot of traffic but this traffic should be targeted.
And how are you earnings (approximately) if that is not a bussines secret ? How many posts per week do you write?
I earn about $1,000 a month (from blogging), but usually less. My goal is not the money that comes directly from blogging, but to get freelance projects (like speaking) and other job opportunities that comes with it. I could probably earn a lot more if I dedicated more time to it, but at the moment I'm writing a novel instead I write about 5 blog posts a week. You can read about it in my signature (it's the exact method I'm using).
i use blogs only for link building to my main sites. i tried to make money with blog and clickbank but it never worked
As others had said, you should think about what you like to do.... Don't think about internet marketing as a hit and run... think of it as something you'll have to do for the rest of your life... That makes it a bit easier to find something that'll keep your motivated in hard times... If you love to write, then blogging, article marketing etc. is for you... If you love to program, then that's what you should be doing... I see way to many marketers give up, because they though they could become millionaires in a few months, retire and spend the rest of their lives sipping drinks on a beach somewhere... It happens for some... but I truly believe that those people (who becomes millionaires from IM) are the ones that truly loves what they do and work VERY hard to achieve their goals.... Just my 5c
I write content on my blogs and use adsense on them. For other blogs, I use them to build PR and pump them to my money sites.

google loves blogs, especially blogger blogs by not having one, your site may be loosing out there ... then again, it depends whether you could update it regularly with content.

The other way is to make a niche site or autoblog site.

Build up traffic and contacts, the best way for a Pet Blog site is offer something for free, like a free report or ebook on pets subject. Building the list is the key of success on the net. Look at all of the other Internet Guru do, they also offer something for free to build their list, then use the list to promote other products. Robert Allen had it in his book, it blow my mind away that I forgot about it, but looking in his book Multiple Income Stream on the Internet, He talk about how he made $24,000 in 24 hours.. no joke. But what get me, he already build his list first before he did this be Internet Business Showdown in 24 hours deal that he can make that much money.. It awesome how he did it, and yes people knew him very well, he really good in marketing for sure.. and best seller author, but the key of success in that, was the LIST (He offer something for free for people to signup) Gain their trust as readers, and give out the same more free information, and people will love you for it. Frank Kern talk about it in his program too... How did he become successful??? He build a list by offering free report, ebook or free access to some how to video,etc... Very powerful way to make money online.

From my experience of experimenting with 5 or 6 blogs it can begin to pay off after a few months, but its a lot of work, so you better be writing about something you enjoy.
