Am I the only one who only uses green hat techniques?

As a political activist I suppose he doesn't need any SEO.

How can link trading be illegal or unethical? One of the methods that Google, yahoo and the other major search engines use to determine the relevancy of a website is to look for quality links. If you're getting backlinks from credible sites especially niche sites that should benefit you. The problem is soliciting links just to get a boost in the SERPs which is why link farms are illegal. But linking to and receiving links from reputable websites is not wrong, and the search engine bots even look for them.
