I run it on one office computer. The traffic and site data is great; I never use it for search. However, on my personal laptop, I run Google toolbar.
i use it cause i use adbrite. Alot of the rankings are based on alexa stats! However ill soon be getting rid of it as soon as i can start using ypn and msn adcenter!
I am using it, though antispyware software keeps recommending it to get rid of it. Not sure whether it serves any purpose. Only reason for sticking to it is that sometimes, we see bids for a site where buyer also looks for alexa ranking while negotiating price
I use the searchstatus extension for firefox. I check out alexa ranks often, it is free marketing information who wouldn't want that. Ofcourse, keeping the limited reliability in mind
I have installed it twice to find not only innacurate results but also slowness pages load. More than its search engine usability or ranking analysis its use is instrisically related to get ocassional Amazon shoppers. Through Amazon you can customize tha toolbar to attach your affiliate ID if the surfer download the toobar from your wesbiste.
A pity it's labeled as spyware by most anti spyware apps, might get you angry visitors. Although in my opinion it isn't spyware anymore than the Google toolbar with PR enabled.
I tried it for a while but it kept setting off spyware alarms, also slowed down my browser too much. Do find the page stats interesting.
It just took way too long to load so I removed it. I would love a little FF plugin that showed alexa ranking in the corner.
I use the Alexa toolbar to support a friend of mine. Their amazon affiliate code is embeded into the toolbar... Mark
I've thought about using it but never have as of yet. I do visit Alexa fairly frequently to check websites traffic stats.
people LOVE stats and graphs, just seems to be human nature. thats the only reason i can see why people still use alexa.
I use it. I'm still trying to figure out if it has any value. I know that its traffic figures are wholly inaccurate on a day to day or week to week basis. But when comparing sites overall in the long term, isn't it fairly accurate? Or is it really totally useless?
I find the Alexa toolbar's other sites visited to be very useful for finding sites to exchange links, for brainstorming for related topics to my site, for finding sites to purchase, etc. I do understand that the data is accumulated from other users of the Alexa toolbar so I know it's a sampling limited to those who are capable of adding a plug in (that knocks out the bottom half of Internet users) and who understand that spyware tools are not infallable. I think we as webmasters and developers should use Alexa and encourage other users to use it because it provides valuable info that would be more valuable if it was more widely used.
