    1. Owning several directories and seeing the same submission pop up within minutes of each other on multiple directories.

    2. Usually because people don't realize they are submitting to paid directories and obviously don't pay.

    3. There are a few other tricks that I as a programmer have developed to stop automatic software, but they will remain my secret ;)

    I have deeplinks mod installed. And all automated submission software fill in the fields for deeplinks even of they are hidden
    Automated submission software is looking for forms that have <input name="*URL*" .... and as deep links habe URL1 etc.. those fields are filled in even if they are not viewable

    Yeah,
    And that's what I written once on DP:

    Create another hidden field in submit template and then in submit.php file check if it was filled.
    If so - you know this is automat.
    Then set variable $SecondValidation = 0;
    and it won't pass over submit page ;)

    Just another guard against automats.

    no problems at all
    even bringing some $$
    because users contacts u back asking you why have you rejected his link, u tell him because he used automated submission, or he didn't knew that the company he hired to do submission used automated software and promissed manual (90% of cases) then he buys a featured link in regard of you telling him what kind of company he hired
    something like that

    Generally it seems like spam on admin page.If you are old in this sector, you can understand it by your eye.) Use mixed visual confirmations.

    Not very hard to spot, usually through irregular description or submitted to the wrong category.
