Exactly how do you get traffic from this? Do you Put all the details on your page and then add loads of people?
Well, yes fill your profile (website and bio and so forth), you can tweet and some people may find you regarding to your tweet (you can search for people or types of people or certain things people tweet (search.twitter.com), and some people automatically follow you if you follow them!
Twitter is great, but does feel like a popularity contest, as someone already said. The key to using twitter is to follow relevant people, engage in conversation, and NOT spam. Blindly following anyone and everyone to get a ton of followers back is a strategy that doesn't do much for you. Twit real estate? Join me on twitter (@jrdorkin)

I use Twitterfeed to automatically "tweet" when I have new content or a new post on my blogs. It's done without me having to think about it so I guess it can't hurt. Other than that I'm still trying to figure out how to maximize it for site exposure.
Considering my current traffic it's worth it and I follow relevant people. It's great for connecting with others in your niche. my twitter is http://twitter.com/dhaneveer
http://www.twitter.com/TomSinfield I have only just started to use twitter, but already found it extremely helpful in getting responses from probloggers. My latest post got a comment from Darren Rowse because I sent him a quick 'Tweet' asking him to check it out.
Is twitter good for e-commerce sites? I tried using it, didn't really understand it how do you generate back links or do you just get general traffic from it?
Recently signed up, haven't really tried it out yet. Looks like I'm going to have to have more than one account to drive traffic to all my websites.
If you know how to market a website intelligently in twitter, it would certainly be of help in generating a good amount of traffic and sales.
