    Why not?

.info names are a perfect extention for an informational site, especially GEOs.

    I absolutely agree.
And also if the .com version of a name is already taken why not to use .info version especially if the .info ending is suitable with that name.

I don't think they are untrustworthy, I think that it depends on the domain name and purpose. There are a lot of good .info domains that do what they are supposed to do, provide information. If it is valuable information, then a .info is appropriate. I think a lot of domains are registered with whatever extension is available, but not with the intent to utilize the true purpose of the extension. (I am guilty as well!) Sometimes we think that a certain name is valuable regardless of the extension, and we find we are wrong. I mean, how appropriate is GirlsGoneWild.gov? Just a ridiculous example but you get my point. There are tons of PR5,6, and more .info domains, but they are appropiate.

If you look here, you will see what the different extensions were actually intended for:
    http://www.idcwebs.com/Understanding_Web_Extensions.htm

Hey, I wasted a lot of money buying domains with any extension thinking the name mattered, Most of the time it didn't.
    Cheers!

I hate .info names mostly, I don't have any at all and I have hundreds of domains. There's nothing wrong with the extension in itself, just that there's millions of crap sites that are .info because it's dirt cheap to register so people, especially on DP, by them to stick a rubbish site on to sell it straight away - people whose idea of 'established' means it's more than two weeks old.

To me they are the epitome of all things crap and cheap and badly written and useless on the internet, and I think lots of other people think that also which only perpetuates it further.

However, I did hear an ad for a .info site on a UK national radio station that has millions of listeners just the other day - so it's not all bad. :)

GirlsGoneWild.gov? Monica Lewinsky eat your heart out!
In all seriousness through a dot info is just that, a site
that should be dedicated to providing information about
what the browser is seeking. Say for example if you were
seeking advice about how to apply a bandage to a wound
the last thing you want to see is a sales page about
bandages and their suppliers. This is probably why Sex,info
is still hanging around sedo, they tried to dot com a dot info!

I'm another of the persons who second this point of view.

As in example, I have a domaiin that serves as redirection service to display information, hence it's much better displaying info (as it what it is aimed for) than displaying com

I don't trust .info websites if the site involves money transactions. But I guess it's very ideal for information related websites...

They are spam domains, plain and simple. This has long been established. They are generally worthless other then for funneling traffic to a splog as their serp rankings to say the least are 'undesirable'. You can make money from them for sure, but if you are taking what you are doing even a little bit serious, you would avoid them...

    100% agree.

I don't judge a site on it's extension, If a site has pop-up ads, looks dodgy & feels dodgy then I will leave and that is the same for .com's, .net's, .org's, .info's and everything else.

Many big site is ended with .info, such as prchecker.info, webhosting.info. .info is only cheap in first year, but not for second year and so on...

I can't say that I don't trust sites that end with .info. This TLD is being "abused" and "spammed" too much, but other than that it's okay.
