How long do you use Overture? (If you actually DO)
Do you think it really shows quality results?

Do you have a website in Top10 Google, Yahoo and MSN search results for some keyword, which is being searched a lot (if to trust Overture statistics)? Does it represent the facts?

By the way, why doesn't Overture say where it takes the data from?

Overture is owned by Yahoo! It is what yahoo uses for its PPC services. So, the data is from the Yahoo network. Seems like a logical assumption to me.

Overture is actually Goto after it was bought by Yahoo, this is pretty basic knowledge.

The whole YPN network runs of Overture.

Do I trust it to accurately represent its search results and not cheat? Yes. Do I trust that x searches actually means x people really looking at a search results page? Not quite, there's probably some unintentional duplication (people search the same thing multiple times in a short period) and the like. Do I trust that searches made in Overture accurately reflect those made in other search engines? Somewhat, but not entirely -- does it really use data from all Yahoo searches now? Before the aquisition Overture's data was not quite mainstream since it was only of searches in their rather business-oriented search engine. Do I trust it to be worth my money to advertise in Overture? No, but I'm sure it's worth it for some.

I still use Wordtracker, but I never buy more than a one-day subscription. I've found that this usually lasts around three days, so I condense all of my keyword research into these three days, and then build from there. :)

Overture is not Yahoo!. While it is owned by Yahoo! it uses a different dataset to produce its search counts.

Overture is not perfect. A lot of bots and SEO professionals query the Overture netwoks to explore PPC keywords. This creates "searches" on those keywords and artificially inflates the results.
