Godaddy sometimes offer 0.99$ .com registration, but you need credit card to pay for.

Don't use Yahoo. It's hard to get support and hard to transfer out before you get hit with high 2nd year charges in their required auto-renewal.

From places like godaddy or yahoo I would certainly trust it. In fact any accredited registrar (ICANN, CIRA) is generally fine. For resellers, that's a different story...

Yep, a couple of hours ago I used Godaddy to get the 99 cent + ICANN for a .com, normally I would never use them again, but when these deals come up, I make an exception.

Like everyone else said, I would only do it from a trusted source. Also, make sure you have control of the domain name after purchase.

Well, it all depends on the registrar you register it from. Godaddy is a trusted name.

You can not purchase a .com domain name around $1 unless one of the certified registrar is offering a discount/promotion, other then that it would be happy purchase of a big hassle.

I searched on ebay and there are some .com domain names even for $0.99 and they says it is possible to transfer to another registrater also. I am gonna try that out!

I do not believe what you said here, as we all know, USD 6.52 may be the most firm price for international top level domain names, so what domain extension are we discussing about ?

Depends what you want to do with the domain. If you want to build a solid business around it then I would only purchase it from trusted sources (goddady, namecheap to name a few).

On the other hand if you don't mind losing your domain (using it for some shady stuff), it's okay then I guess :)
