Do you think YPN is going to keep paying high?

OK so far we all know YPN has to be giving all of us almost the full profit on each click we get if not all of it. But do you think it will stay like this. will YPN continue to be generious with there payouts? Do you think Google could afford to pay us a little more per click ? are they just a little more selfish with there money than YPN?

I think the click thru rate is so low that Yahoo is forced to share more of the profit just to keep up with Google. They really need to improve their relevance if they are going to compete.

Yahoo has stated that the payouts during beta will be higher than when they come out. The hope is that the competition will force both to share a higher percentage with the publisher - which I think is realistic.

They day YPN lowers payout/click will be a very sad, sad, dark day in my life  .

As long as they continue to pay a decent amount more than google I will stick around.. sites I had been getting $3-5/click on adsense a year ago I was getting $.30-40 cents on after smart pricing came out... !!

I am or saw the same thing with 'smart pricing' of Adsense. Clicks were $1-$2 then smart pricing hit, every since I get 3 cents, 5 cents, 30 cents if I am lucky, it ruined AdSense :(

I don't know, this is just ludacris. I went from making $200/day on google adsense to you dont even want to know how much per day on Yahoo, my site shows 50% relevant and 50% un-relevant, I don't know if the advertiser is getting what they payed for, due to unrelevant ads displaying. I would hope my visitors click the ads if there only interested correct? Well I am very happy with YPN, but also very confused, I am making $x,xxx per day... So I am a bit curious of what the hell is going on.

If Yahoo lowered payouts any amount tomorrow, I would probably have to remove them entirely. The only thing that keeps them in the places I have them now are the very high payout rates.

I got a click for over $4.00 on a site yesterday that traditionally got $.05-$.10 clicks on google. Problem is that is the only click I have had on that particular site in a while.

If they really are using a strategy of higher payouts for beta, I am not sure how wise it is. The first thing that happens the day after beta ends is all their established publishers start complaining about the payouts. THis when you are trying to add more publishers. I just don't see that being effective.

Exactly, and this is why I think that YPN will consistently pay more than AS even when the beta is over--not as much as they are paying now, but higher than AS. The Yahoo people know that most publishers have the option to choose between YPN and AS, so I should think that they'll do what they can to keep their publishers, even if that means making no money with the program for a few years.

    As always, IMO.

I think as the network grows the relevance will also. I have an account now and will be testing it on a few sites soon.

Sounds to me like they will do their best to compete. I sure hope the payments won't go down drastically after beta.

The payout is crap whenever bids on those keywords is crap. Google raising their payout rate to 60% or 75% or whatever is still going to give you crap payouts. It's not like they pay out 90% for keyword A and 5% for keyword B.

It's unlikely that Google & Yahoo would want to stick around with no money. Google still rakes in about 70% of their revenue from search, and that's what Yahoo really needs to attract. Attracting that means attracting ADVERTISERS, not publishers.

It's not in either company's best interest to try to destroy one another at this game, because they both have a common enemy in Microsoft.

Wouldn't they need publishers too? It seems like they would try to balance it out. There are some people, surprisingly enough, that do not go to yahoo on a daily or even weekly basis. How can yahoo make money off of them? I would hope that the advertisers (Yahoo, Google, someday MSN) would go for volume. If they all raised their payouts to 50%, more webmasters would place their ads. It would make them less money per click but a higher volume of money.

I made a comic on the fate of YPN's high payments.

I agree with others that they'll have to keep payments higher than Adsense in order to maintain their user base. But I doubt they'll stay as high as they are now.
