Hello.. I am working on a site (in Danish). Our goal is to promote shops and webshops. in the hope of getting more users to visit our site we are planning a small competition. The winner price is a giftcertificate that can be used at one of our advetisers shops. Our idear is to make an small banner (125*125). This banner is placed on our advertisers webshops, not in the frontpage but somewhere in the shop. Then de participants can look trought the shops, find the banner and post a screenshot for os. Each screenshot from a different shop will give one ticket to the competition. We will ofcourse add the competition to all the danish "compition-sites" Do you think it can be used as viral marketing? Are common internetusers avare of how to make a screenshot. Does people want to particitate even though the price is small?
guess the most impt factor is how attractive your prize is. Nobody will bother if the prize is insignificant, unless of course, they already intended to browse through those shops...... with good prizes, anything is possible.
Of course the other big problem is how do you ensure that people in your target market know your promotion is available. I think that's going to be the first problem to solve.
Thanks guys! So you do think common people know hos to hit the "print-screen-buttom"? Our prize is not very high.. And of course that will effect the number of participants. Our site is not very old, and we do not have a lot of money to put in it. So we are going to try with a small prize at first. hopefully we later can afford to make bigger prizes I don't think it will be a problem to reah out to our target market. There is a huge pile of sites that is based on information about compititions. and they are happy to add a link to out site But i guess that our hurdle is the size of the prize
Thi is like treasure hunting. Just as in any treasure hunt, the prize must be attractive to attract the crowd.
Yes it is like tresurehunting... well.. if we imagine that the tresure is big enough... do you think people would understand the concept?
Most people who've worked in a company that runs on computers know how to at least take a screen capture, even if most don't really understand what to do with it. You might get a lot of Word documents with an image of the screen embedded ( you can copy it out of Word, then crop to just the part you're interested in ), but most people won't be intimidated by this, and if you add directions you might be able to get people to make your job easier.
