directories are still important. I did many tests with a website that i only did directory submissions (nothing else) and got pretty good SERPs

Well IMO, it can still help to gain backlinks. Just make sure that you don't waste all of your time submitting to them and as much as you can, don't pay for the inclusion. There are bunch of Free directory submission sites out there that can give you a very good backlinks.

From personal experience directories are certainly still a major part of branding/link building. I have made friends with people in other directories from simply being in the same category as my site. As far as link building goes they usually get indexed but I noticed 6 months after a new directory comes out 80% of them are either redirected and/or parked domain. If you keep submitting daily you won't look at the 80% as a huge loss and rather the 20% extra links you do get as a gain.

I think you should just focus on SEO because nobody uses directories for search ... but submitting your site in big directories can get you quality backlinks for higher ranking....

of course you have to choose a directory sites to include your site with pr and something related to your site, and just keep in mind never include your site in a category with an adult sites, pharmaceutical as well as gambling sites.

I think having directory submission helps you to gain back links, it depends on the directory your submitting....know if it is a quality link/related link/ or good for your site... ii is how you optimize your site :D.

True... Submitting on directories gives you link juice and helps you gain backlinks, especially if you submitted your site in those directories related to your site.

Someone here posted that youshould shift to Article Submission, he's right, it's a lot better than doing directory submissions which is frequently crawled by spiders... :)

I think directory submissions still have their purpose. They are not as important as before but relevant directories to your niche or local directories can help. The local ones can especially help with the Google local results if you are doing SEO for a product/service rather than a blog (thats right, not everyone here is promoting a blog) that you want to appear for within your location search.

Submitting to directories is not considered as a good option because generally it gives link from the inner page which does not hold any PR.
