Many sites dropped from PR 7 to 5 or 6 to 5 after this months google PR update.

Do you think recent PR drops effected rankings?

My experience is PR has nothing to do with SERP ranking. Simply do a search with google, check the websites and you will notice, not necessary the page with higher page rank will rank higher.

i saw examples pointing out that they do. Sites who counted a lot on link buying should suffer, as the total weight of the incoming links was reduced drastically.

The PageRank 'update' that everyone has witnessed is just a snapshot of Google's internal PR values. The PageRank your now seeing has already been factored into Google's rankings weeks if not months ago. Your PR is always changing; it's just that Google only make PR visible to Toolbar users every few months.

Therefore Google exporting new PR values has absolutely nothing to do with SERPs.

Maybe there's is an instance, because PR is about quality backlinks and SERPs one factor are quality backlinks...:p

PR adjustments or/and PR drop will not affect the SERP rankings of web sites/pages..

If this PR update reflects your rankings it is reflecting ranking from many months ago. The PR update won't reflect a recent picture of your PR unless your site is brand new.

Google algorithm adjustments do not coincide with the pagerank updates and the pagerank updates do not reflect your current pagerank.

Your real PR will have an aggregate effect on your site's overall SERPs and traffic levels if combined with intelligent site optimization. Fact.

I think that people place too high a value on Google page ranks. I have one website [ultimate-free-downloads.com] that has a Goole page rank of only 2
but when I go to Google and type in one of my key word phases[ultimate free downloads], I am ranked in the number 2 position out of 57,700,000 searches.

Google page rank is only a guide for 99% of all websites.

I submit articles to directories [entertainment type articles] I believe that is the major reason that I rank so high with such a low page rank.

This is only my own opinion

It's very normal to happen every google update, some site drops in SERP but come back again after few days.

Most of my sites PR didn't change but my main, most popular sites PR did change... :( It went down , from PR4 to PR2

Good thing is though, so far at least. The position in the serps didn't change.
