I'm too lazy to read all of the above posts, but here is my 2 cents:

I know for sure that Google has definitely changed their algo to identify blog spam. So if you're trying to use a spammer tool and find all those dormant blogs, don't....

However, if it's from a comments from active blogs (and not too many) I don't think it'll hurt, that's why you should give trackbacks to blogs which you read and posts you use :) works for me :D

Really? Can you provide some evidence? I would be curious to hear what they are doing.

You mean Google actually allows blog spam links in huge numbers as actual links? I thought that's why most BH members at syndk8 stopped doing it (a few still do it on a limited basis on dormant blogs)?

Sure - unless you have evidence to show they don't.

I don't use nofollow in my blogs (a pain in WP - as you actually have to get a plug-in to turn it off). If a comment is posted and I allow it to be published - Google will follow it. Google is not doing anything to stop blog spam - they require the user to do something. Thanks for the article!

Heh, really? I have a Wordpress blog too, and it seems to be a built in feature... As confirmed by Google too!

I guess blog spam is a lot similar to link spam, and if they see 1,000 links overnight to a new website, don't you think it'll raise some questions?
