check out this section i read on BBC site... Google has said it finds Microsoft's $44.6bn (£22.65bn) bid to buy rival Yahoo "troubling" and wants regulators to scrutinise the proposed deal. In a blog, Google said the tie-up could unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors' email and instant messaging services. It said Microsoft had previously sought "to establish proprietary monopolies". Microsoft made an unsolicited offer for Yahoo on Friday, and Yahoo has said it is considering the proposal. Microsoft's hostile bid for Yahoo raises troubling questions David Drummond, chief legal officer Google Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive, told analysts at a briefing on Monday the proposed takeover would create a "strong number two competitor". He argued that competition would get fiercer, particularly in the market for online advertising. "Google's clearly got a dominant position. They've got about 75% of paid search worldwide," Mr Ballmer said. 'Underlying principles' But that view is not held by the top executives at Google. "Microsoft's hostile bid for Yahoo raises troubling questions," said David Drummond, Google's senior vice president for corporate development and chief legal officer. "This is about more than simply a financial transaction, one company taking over another. It's about preserving the underlying principles of the internet: openness and innovation," he said in a company blog. This is clearly Google's opening move in a complex game of chess that will encompass ordinary users, politicians, regulators and businessmen Darren Waters, technology editor, BBC News website. "While the internet rewards competitive innovation, Microsoft has frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies - and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets," he said. In 2004 the European Commission fined Microsoft 497m euros for abusing its market dominance, a ruling the US company finally lost on appeal in September last year. The Commission has since launched two new competition inquiries against Microsoft. Members of the US Congress Judiciary Committee will scrutinise the bid on 8 February. what do you guys think
Google is already expressing fear on Microsoft Yahoo... http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/02/yahoo-and-future-of-internet.html It takes a little inference to know that Google is shaking at its knees.
Hey, Sure they are, after all it might be a very good compete for them which means less profits from the global users.
With a potential merger like this, Google should be a bit troubled by these events but overall more competition means better for us consumers.
This merge will make Google to do more Because Microsoft Yahoo! will be the biggest threat to its popularity.
There has been many post's about this, but like I said before I love the idea of leveling the playing field, keeps everyone honest. When was the last time anybody saw GOOGLE show any sign of vulnerability. This great!
by the time Yahoo and MSN spend 6 months convincing the SEC and the EU that the deal is good for consumers and then probably another year figuring out how the pieces fit together....how much growth will google have by then? I think you guys are forgetting that these are two struggling entities that are joining forces...
I don't think google will look troubled because of the impending take over of yahoo by MS. At the most it would make google more active and better prepared to take on the combined opponents
I think it is very important what kind of strategy Microsoft would develop to merge these two big companies together. If they develop a perfect strategy then you can say adios to Google like we did to Netscape. I have written an article about it on my blog. You can check it out. Google is going to have the same destiny like Netscape had before? Regards, ameran
If MS and Yahoo will be able to join their forces this can result in a stronger player in the search engine field. This possibility should worry Google.
i think google is worried about Microsoft and yahoo. Even if they merge google will stil have higher share in the advrtising world. Google has always emphasised on better search results. They have always updated their algos for the betterment of search..i dont think so they are worried...
