Famous between webmasters = yes Famous in the world = no (if you tell people you earn your living from your website you are going to have them show them proof they will think your bs)
When I say that I earn some money from "internet ads" many people look at me and think "why doesn't this guy get a real job?". As Seya said, Adsense is very famous between webmasters, but not for the rest of the people.
I reckon Google itself is pretty famous.. but hmm, probably for IT geeks.. Google is extremely famous.. but ask my dad.. he look confused. hahha
