    I believe forum posting does help for seo. But like said before , the link should be relevant to your website niche.

    Google considers them as low quality links and hence they are not likely to help much. Google can distinguish between links that are in the blog post and links that are in the comments section. Those in the comments section are usually discounted.

    TOP Marketers I know even hire people to POST! if you know the site sherlockrecords.com ... it has i think 500 hits a day or more, but earns $1000 a day. And it all came from posting like these in large forums. Google reads the content wherever you post. :)
