I dont think they well. There are many directories out there like a dime a dozen.

But are they useful. Very much so. I have one remaining directory as a subdirectory of a main site. It has brought in alot of traffic for my main site as well.

I did have two directories on two different sites. I advertised them both at the same time. I found I was getting 50 to 150 more submissions on one directory more than another. I know the one site that got more submissions had to do with my information on my main page.

The sad thing is when I put the directories out I forgot to put my clicksor on for the first 2 weeks or so. But towards the end there were some takers on clicking. I am sure it will pick up again when pr updates come close.

I would think the spammy directories will lose their cred and PR.
Google may push more for DMOZ and niche directories instead of general ones that list casino gambling and pharmacy email spam sites.

Sooner or later people will stop using directories, especially after they get traffic.

People never used web directories to browse the web. We all know that web directories have a webmaster purpose and not a user one ;D,

Before building web directories i found that very annoying to see a list of links on SERPS whenever i typed a keyword, i remember i had to go through 7 websites in order to find hte one i like...

Legit directories should be fine, spammy ones... well big papa G is working on them :D

i aggree... good directories will forever be popular on the net..

That said, i feel its time for me to start one up..

ps. to those that don't realize alot of the social news sites (like DIGG) are just glorified directories..

If you changed the model of your current directory and made it more social (have a raiting system, allow commenting on a social basis, build a ranking system for your directoriy submittions) then your directory will evolve to the next level..

Ive been checking out alot of your directories and am really excited about starting my own ..
