    Who is Bill Gate?
    :p

Throwing money at charity doesn't necessarily make you a 'good guy'.

It's kind of hard to make that kind of judgment about somebody (I assume) none of us have ever met.

Especially since he has stepped back from hands-on managing of M$, I haven't heard much about what he's been up to.

He is active in various charities which is a positive characteristic, I guess.

I think he is a genuinely humane person and definitely not as cutthroat as he used to be.

For me he is a very good guy. Throwing billion of dollars to charities is not a simple thing to do if you don't have a kind heart.

But when you have hundreds of billions yourself, that changes the circumstances slightly :D?

Still, nice guy in my opinion. Don't know why cause I've never met him, but...

I have not met the guy personally, so I can't comment if he's good or bad. However I don't think that just because he donates to charity, he is a good guy.
    1) He has the money. If I had billions of dollars, I would donate too! Right now I have to spend all my money on paying the bills.
    2) He might not be donating because he is good, he might be donating because he wants a positive public image.
    3) Microsoft (the company that pays him, so he can donate ;) ) is well known for underhand techniques and driving others out of business to make money.

Also look when he (or maybe it's MS) donates all those computers to all the public schools. It's not being done for the greater good, instead it's being done so the students learn all their computer skills on Microsoft software, so when they are out of school they don't know anything else and have to purchase a license from them.

I don't know him, never met him so I can't say he's a good or a bad guy. You can't judged people before you really know them.

Whether or not he is any more humane than the rest of us is a mystery.

But, he definitely seems to have, dare I say it, lost his edge since leaving Microsoft.

Or, maybe it was because he is now married with children.

The Bill Gates from the 80s would never have let the web get away from Microsoft the way that it did.

I think he is a nice guy. People only despise him for the problems that Microsoft has. ;)

I don't really know him at all, so I can't say anything.

Keep in mind that some people donate to charity to write off taxes ;) Not saying he does that.

though ive never met the man, i think he is a good person based on the amount of charitable giving he does, but strongly disagree with his reputed strongarm business tactics and the fact that he has driven so many competitors out of business by violating antitrust laws

I know this doesn't make him necessarily a good guy, but he does donate a lot of money, and others with A LOT of money, don't bother to donate, so you can look at it that way.
