Satellites... should be able to transmit to space some how. Although the position may be a problem... and we don't know, I don't think anybody does.
There is a really big possibility that we are not alone in this universe....we humans ourselves are aliens to them...you say that they may be using the internet?our internet?may be..but if they are a much advanced race than we are, they could be using their own so called "internet" to watch us here at earth..not ours...but may be they'll try to connect our internet with theirs to get to gather information about earth's inhabitants...
