We know that it's easier to rank with long-tail keywords, since they're in less competition, and in a lot of cases, provide decent conversion. Having said that, do you only focus on long-tail or not bother with standard short keywords?
Like you said, long-tail keywords tend to convert better since they usually target more accurately what the reader is looking for. However, depending on the search traffic for that key phrase, you may be limiting yourself and losing out on potential customers. I like to test a combination of both and try to determine which works best for the product/service being promoted.
I keep optimizing for 'main keywords' and in the mean while use long tails to get some traffic and revenue. In the end long-tails send around 60-70% traffic over main keywords.
i mainly target long tail keyword which takes lot less time to get ranked. there are plenty of long tail KWs out there which will give you decet traffic. just do a little KW research and use them for faster result.
Targeting long tail keywords is a great idea and you definitely have to do that. You can do a two way promotion in the sense that you can use main keywords to try and rank those hard to get keywords for your main page and for the other pages go for long tail. It will give you more profits like that. Remember that you do not really want high traffic, you should want good converting traffic. If you get 1000 visitors that do not give you any click it is not that great. If you get 30 and 1 of them clicks we are already in front of a better situation. Long tail keywords are keywords that people usually use when they look for something specific. If you have that something specific then you will get better conversions, adsense clicks or whatever you do to monetize.
But sometimes other long tail keywords are highly competitive. There are case that long tail keywords has many competitors but some long tail keywords are less competitors. It also defends on your keywords. Like this keyword "promotional items corporate gifts srednarb".
Well, long tail keywords should also include your main short tail keywords no? This would be a good scenario.
Its more about doing good keyword research.......if a shorter keyword has less competition but plenty of searches then use it. Its all about research, research research and staying laser focused on what you are promoting...........
ive never done this, just targeted small keywords, has any one got any tips on how to target long tail keywords?? for example i have a website to do with bebo skins, would a long tail keyword be something like 'free adidas classic bebo skins' or something similar?
I try to go for long tail keywords which include my main keywords somewhere..and yea, it's easy to rank for long tail when compared to competitive main keywords.
shorter ones are more often very competitive. Unless I had a lot of money to throw at it, I would stick with long-tail. I currently always do longtail but I make sure that those key phrases are ones that are actually being searched for.
Do both. broad keywords = greater volume, higher prices, more competition. Long tail = lower volume, lower prices, less competition
In many ways when you optimise towards long tail keyphrases, you will automatically be optimising towards the main short keywords. For example, if you are targeting "designer clothes", this already contains "clothes" so if you have this in the title tag you will be getting found for "clothes". If you are beginning in the industry with a new site is is better to build towards long tail phrases and then when you have been successful with this, consider optimising towards your main phrases.
Hi thats true, when u target long tail keywords there is maximum chance to get to the top position with a minimum risk and viceversa creates traffic to your website
