Hello everyone, I am relatively new to the board and to the website game as well so please forgive my ignorance. My confusion is over comments made on posts here about submitting your website to search engines. I understand that you would want to submit your website at the beginning to help get it indexed. (I personally let the search engines find me rather than do this.) However, it also seems (based on other posts) that others are submitting their website's sitemap at periodic intervals? Am I interpreting this correctly and if so, how often do you guys do it? What type of jump have you seen in your serps because of it? Thanking everyone in advance, JDSalinger
I submit mine only once and depending on the site, i rank high in serps on a bunch of them. If you just exchange links with people the search engines will eventually find you, i just like to speed up the process...
It doesn't take too much for search engines to find you. I submitted one of my sites right after I created it. It took about 2 to 3 months to get listed in serp. Then for another site of mine, It only took couple of days without submitting. For me whenever I submit my site, It doesn't speed up the process infact It just takes even longer. I don't know why.
I used to submit my sites to search enginges.. bug then I just started leaving links in my signature and they get crawled quit quickly.
It seems to go pretty quickly for me. I do put a new site into my Webmaster Account at Google, throw in a site map, and a few sig links, that's it. It's done.
It doesn't hurt to submit. There are a lot of search engines out there and personally I would like to be in as many as possible. The big ones will certainly find your site without you having to submit but not all will I don't think. Maybe I'm wrong about that but I think only the big search engines do that. But having your site indexed by even small search engines is a plus so that's why I submit to them.
