I have a MySpace layout site (please don't flame). I have been a little worried about storing the graphics locally due to bandwidth issues. I have always stored them on free image storage sites. Do any of you have bandwidth issues due to storing MySpace layout backgrounds and contact tables locally on your server space? Thanks Carl
Yes you need a decent server with a good deal of bandwidth. I always store them locally because free hosts just arent reliable. This month so far I used 101.62 Gig bandwidth just on one of my sites. But for my dedicated server I have 1500 Gig to use per month.
For big sites (more than 2TB/mo) I would suggest getting a separate box with lighttpd just for file serving. This way you can set up images to be served directly from that server isntead of boggin down your web server box. You should think ahead and use subdomains for eg: images.yourdomain.com and make them direct to your dedicated lighttpd image/file server. This file server doesnt need a beefy CPU but rather a lot of ram and good Harddrives.
For big sites (more than 2TB/mo) YIKES!!!! I use free hosting services to host the files from my small site. It would take me a seriously long time to get to this!!! Carl
