Still using 2 * 8GB for backup purposes. Works just fine and I don't have to rely on someone else ( cloud computing, etc. ).

Being someone who's a bit old school, I still use them. They are backups of all the files I have in the 'cloud'. If I'm not going to trust my own computer to keep the stuff without crashing on me, I'm not going to trust another computer to do the same.

I have one which is a bootable linux distro. Very handy for when the computer stops working for no apparent reason :)

The way you explain the reasoning, backing up data for 2 or 3 times seems reasonable. Yet, I would just go with the reliable cloud storage

I have 2 USB sticks I use. One 4GB stick that I use primarily for uni work, which has a version of dropbox portable running, so all my files are synced between my laptop, desktop and usb stick. My second stick is a 8GB stick that I just use to backup important files and whatnot at home.

Yes I do...and they are a lot cheaper now.
Got an 8GB one on Amazon for under £3. :)
And it was a Kingston DataTraveller as well.

I don't even use USB sticks now, I have started lugging my external HDD USB drives around :)

The way I go around this is to buy different brands of USB sticks / drives for different type of files. So if it is a Kingston, I will put anime files on it, and for an Apacer I will put text documents, etc. and so on....

But still you should keep the system of sorting files among USB sticks in your head. I don't know, I wouldn't wish to do something like that myself

The thing will external hard drives is the same as with USB sticks, they can break down suddenly...that's, actually, why the cloud storages are safer

Keeping your data in "the cloud" is like keeping your money in the bank. One day you'll go to use it, and it will be gone.
I hope everyone that is storing their data in the cloud not only encrypts it, but keeps multiple backups in the real world.

Well, you're right to a certain extent, but I suppose that there're some truly trustworthy cloud storages today, at least I'm sure that 4Sync that I'm using is safe for my files. I've lost around 5 8-GB USB's in my life, and finally got the lesson.

Yeah!!! Still I am using them. I believe them a lot to store my data than file hosting.
