Do you send rejection emails in your directory?

I very rarely see directories making use of this.

Do you think it's a good/bad idea, and why?

Well i send rejection, submit notification and approval notification.

I just do not see any reason why not to send rejection email. I find it unfair that a user keeps waiting for some reply after they put an effort to submit their sites to your directory. I even get emails back stating why it was rejected and i give them same reason that i do not accept N/A ranked sites and those who do not have google cached info about their site or do not show up after doing google search for their domain.

So sending no rejection email i not fair in my viewpoint but it can differ from person to person.

And i do not delete sites i just put them in pending status so they do not have to worry about it as after next pr update i will check all sites ranks and google info and approve them. So saying their time. You can see there are over 70 pending sites at my directory site.

    Cheers

Let me tell you the reason for not sending rejection email.

I used to do it before some time, and I stoped it because all the rejected sites send me emails seeking for reasons, so I had to revisit their site and remember what made me reject them, then answer them, then get an email from them telling me that I am wrong.............

Especcially in these days where there are thousands of 'turnkey' sites that I have to ban anyway, it is very difficult to explain to those (that in most times are newbies) about dublicate content, etc.

Yup I had the exact same problem.I used to send out rejection notifications. And some of them will reply to the e-mail and asked why were their sites rejected.

I don't send out submission notification, just approval notifications.

i think that sending rejection notifications is good, cause that way the person knows that he wasn't accepted...it's really annoing to wait for something to happen and don't know if it happened or not

it's only polite to inform the submitter that his site has been rejected. i understand that this may/will lead to the problem of receiving emails asking for an explanation...

what i'd do is to send the rejection email but specify in the email that the decision is final and that you will not be responding to clarification emails...

or you could use a different address from where you send the rejection email, and never monitor that address, or simply delete all mails once a week

And what would be the point for doing that?

Anyway if they see that this is not a working email adress, they will use the contact form.

Anyone can use the contact form, and you can't stop them doing that(just maybe if you don't have a contact form :D ) .But usually they just hit the reply button, and say what they want tot say..and they think they did it, but if you never get to read that mail, because you don't monitor that address, it's better for both you and the one that send it(cause he will never know this, and rarely will go through the trouble of usingthe contact form to send you another mail)

Even if you did bother they didn't work cause the include files provided which you are meant to insert in the email templates were incorrect. Replace the word EMAIL with LINK and you'll find they'll work :)

but it take none of your time man! You need 5 minutes to write the rejection message once....ant then, when you decide to reject a link and press the reject button, the mail is sent automatically, you don't have to do anything else, it take NO time whatsoever :)
if you want i can send you my rejection message and it will take you only 2 minutes(only once) to make it work for you...

I dont as I get angry webmasters writing asking why and dont really want to take the time to explain that the spam site or spam backlink is not worth it.

:)) woooow....why the hell did you let that many add up man?! I usually take care of them once or twice a day, or they will add up and will be really boring to stay and review many at once..
anyway, about the rejection email..do as you like, if that works best for you :)
