Yes. Like Sarahk, I use Wordpress. Just set it up once and you don't have to worry about it again. You can also use Feedburner which can ping 9 services for you.
Jeet, which version of Wordpress are you using? In version 1.5.x, go to your Wordpress Admin -> Options -> Writing -> at the very bottom, you will see Update Services. Pingomatic is automatically added there, you can add other services as you wish.
Oh, I use Wordpress also. I just never saw that feature. Where do you send pings to? Right now it's set to pingomatic. Will that cover all the basis or do you send pings to like pingoat also? I'm pretty new to blogs. They are a lot fun though.
I agree. Ping goat is awesome. You can bookmark the ping page, so you just have to reload the page everytime you want to ping your site. When I ping my forums, within 5 minutes, I have about 15 different bots checking out my new info.
Well, since WP automaticly sends pings what if I put pingoat.com in my list of sites to ping. Or do I have to manually ping pingoat?
Hi morituri, I am not very sure which version I am on to but I think I read version 2.something while installing. When I go to options, I see an update options button at the bottom but nothing to add a ping service. Can I manually type the url into some form on some site and the ping is sent? Do you know of any such site? Thanks jeet
I use Pingomatic for one - if you bookmark the result page and revisit it when you post it auto pings again
Jeet, I just checked my Wordpress 2 installation and it's the same as 1.5. Just before the Update Options button there's an Update Services field. It should have http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ in it. You can get a good list of sites to ping here : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=52431&highlight=pingomatic
I use pingomatic, but I also let feedburner send pings too. Pingomatic has been quite slow recently which accounts for a slowness when posting from WordPress, but apparently they're moving to new servers so this should be resolved shortly.
hi, i use WP 2 but dont know about ping; tanks a lot if any one could explain what a ping is actully.?
In simple terms pinging is the way to inform blog search engines like Technorati that you have finished publishing a post. This tells them to check your blog for new posts.
