    No, and come PHP6, you won't be able to. It is being removed.

    When is PHP6 to be available?Helpfully soon! In the meanwhile safemode is better to have it on as a security of the servers.

    As far as I know, they have (temporarily?) halted production on PHP6. So no clue on a possible release date. 5.4 should be coming out within the next month or two.

    safe mode died a long time ago.. and in some cases i heard makes your server more open to attacks
