If you don't mind a newbie asking...how does a site that "just sits there" get PR?

if it holds useful information it will continue to get linked too and visited. I have a site that is only updated via RSS on one page and it's PR continues to grow.

I write my blog in my mother tongue, because I need to share my ideas/work and it is also useful for my name branding.

I think my blog is great reference when I'll look for job.

EDIT: Mattern, I have just realised you use the same template as me on my internet marketing blog. It is cool, isn't it :D

Exactly... you don't have to update often to get higher PR. You just have to make sure what's on there is worth linking to, and people naturally do it on their own. With the example I gave, when it was sitting around, it had an article or two of mine on there from setting it up as a test site for another domain. People were finding it in the SEs and linking to it, and it got PR naturally.

EDIT: Yeah, it's a great theme. :) I just started using it a day or two ago, but it's definitely one of my favorites that I've come across. :)

I launched one but soon got bored and stuck to my other projects. Promoting a personal blog is time consuming and rarely worth the effort. Still, my friends really appreciate it - it's meant for fun and entertainment.

The personal blog is usually "worth the effort" if you're a freelancer and/or selling products/services off your name (like the "make money after you make me money by giving me all of your money" program sellers do).

I have a personal blog, but it doesn't make any money. It has however prooved a good way to keep in touch with some clients, and it's been worth it just for that I think.

If its of any help, I think quaite a few people do reaaly well out of their personal blogs in terms of promoting their main site/venture. They are getting subtantial traffic to the blog and using to heavily promote thier sites.

Blogs can really help a lot in generating traffic to your site. It's really helpful to have your own blog.
