well a lot of bloggers seem to reply on each and every comment on their blog.. In my opinion I don't think its really necessary to reply to all comments. In most of my blogs I do reply to 15-35% of comments. Overall I just find it silly when one replies to every comments.. Btw, I had a nice post about it found here Thanks,
Rarely reply to comments posted at my blogs but check each of them properly if there is any suggestions, feedbacks or useful info posted. It really helps sometimes. DON.
I tend to agree. Why people insist on commenting 'nice blog' or 'yep, you're right' or 'I hear ya' and like phrases is beyond me. Well that's not quite true, I know why they do it but could they at least read the post, think about a response, negative or postive, and then put pen to paper (type comment). That takes time though. Anyway, is pointless to reply to those comments and I'm sure they wouldn't be offended.
I don't even let those type of comments past moderation. I respond when I have time, but most if the time I have comments turned off anyway, and I have de-activated the "Do-Follow" plug in. After a while you get sick of it, and the nobleness of having a "Do-follow" blog gets pretty old ..it doesn't encourage people to leave comments...the average reader doesn't own a website, or blog so what do they care ?...all it does is make you a target for spam comments for back links.
Same here. I am rarely reply to comments but will reply if the commentators give good opinion or suggestion. -cypher.
If I have around 5-10 comments on a post, I try and reply to all. If they are more, I only reply to the most important ones.
As long as my reply is necessary, I reply - and sometimes I feel obliged to say something even if it's not really a must However, I tend to ignore the posts given by those who comment just to have their site's name there hoping for a click since most of them never come back to visit
Hey Comments are an important role in blogging ! They not only build relationship with blog owners, but indeed, provide you traffic ! Check my article in blog about it ! Never underestimate Commenting ! Cheers ! HellBound Bloggers
I reply to those comments that seems to be genuine. There are a lot of comment spamming in the blogging industry. So I choose those comments that that seems to be organic..
ill only reply to ones that need a reply like when a question or idea has been posted or when im taking part in a discussion
I reply to every comment whether it is a nice comment or a negative one (I get pleny of them). I think it is nice that I reply to every comment.
I think the thurst of this thread is not so much whether comments are positive or negative, whether the comments left add value to the thread or not. You can have a nice comment such as "Nice blog" but that adds no value to the topic at hand. In fact it is completely useless and is worthy of being ignored (deleted even). You can have both positive and negative comments which add value to the topic at hand.
In my opinion you should only respond to stuff where a question is asked or you're being directly addressed in a way that ought to prompt a response. See Shoemoney for an example of this approach.
First, I delete all drive-by comments...like "nice post" "great blog" or any comment that I can't tell if they have actually read the post. I also started deleting comments with a lot of Internet shorthand in them, or if the spelling and grammar make the comment barely readable. Sorry but I guess I am just a grumpy old man. I think of the real readers who shouldn't need to wade through all the comment spam and comment waste if they want to read the comment section. Or if they want to check if their question has been asked and/or answered or just want to learn. I only respond to questions, thank others that really add to or enhance the post or conversation. Occasionally I respond to the idiots that need a good smack in the head too.
I reply to interesting comments or questions. I think it's nice to show that there is a real person behind the blog. Obviously, I delete the junk ones like "nice post" and other crap that people copy and paste from blog to blog.
