A friend told me to remove my battery while im using my laptop on electricity. Would it affect the battery life?
Yeah it helps if the battery is not fully discharged. If it is fully discharged, switch off the laptop and then charge it fully and then use it. Every battery has a maximum number of charging cycles, so the more you charge the life might come down faster. Read the article in the link below, it talks in depth about your query: http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/the_green_lantern/2008/12/keep_on_plugging.html
Yes! you a right! I have a few laptops and each have a problem with battery after 1 year, when warranty is finished) But I just change it and used again..
If its your new battery or laptop then better you fully charge it and then keep that charging for 10-15mins after 100%, after that unplug it. Now use without charger until battery goes down to 10% or less. Now put again charger. Repeat this process for around 10 charge-discharge and then you can keep your charger always on while you are using your laptop. It would help to increase the battery like normally which is 1-2 year but this practice could make it better
Yes it would save on battery charging cycles. It is also best not to over-charge your battery or don't use it while plugged.
Thank you all with your valuable inputs. I will definitely do what @frank007 suggested especially I am just waiting for my new laptop to arrive.
I understand your recommendation for the first charge as manufacturers recommend this, as well. Can you advise as to why doing this the first ten times will be even better?
To be honest I've never heard of removing the battery when running on electricity or any issues surrounding it. I knew of the fully charge and let discharge cycle for a new laptop, but in honesty, I've had my current laptop for 18 months and it very rarely comes off of charge, battery is always in and so far (fingers crossed not to curse it!) I've had no problems whatsoever.
