If its your new battery or laptop then better you fully charge it and then keep that charging for 10-15mins after 100%, after that unplug it. Now use without charger until battery goes down to 10% or less. Now put again charger. Repeat this process for around 10 charge-discharge and then you can keep your charger always on while you are using your laptop. It would help to increase the battery like normally which is 1-2 year but this practice could make it better ;)

Yes it would save on battery charging cycles. It is also best not to over-charge your battery or don't use it while plugged.

Thank you all with your valuable inputs. I will definitely do what @frank007 suggested especially I am just waiting for my new laptop to arrive.

I understand your recommendation for the first charge as manufacturers recommend this, as well. Can you advise as to why doing this the first ten times will be even better?

To be honest I've never heard of removing the battery when running on electricity or any issues surrounding it. I knew of the fully charge and let discharge cycle for a new laptop, but in honesty, I've had my current laptop for 18 months and it very rarely comes off of charge, battery is always in and so far (fingers crossed not to curse it!) I've had no problems whatsoever.
