Well because my traffic from Bing is very very very low, I wonder If you webmasters really use Bing and If so how often?
I rarely use bing - the results are not that much different then google, the image search is really poor and some of the results are excluded for some reason. At the bottom of bing, sometimes it says "some of the results were excluded". Why were some of the results excluded? I dont know and I do not know how to see the excluded results. Overall, I am not very happy with bing and I do not understand why there is so much hype about it.
Before bing, I didn't use MSN hardly at all, only Google. I have always desired to migrate from Google (any company whose motto is "don't be evil" MUST be evil, IMO and their CEO dared to use the words "greater good" in regards to the china censorship situation, the epitome of what every evil person says to justify themselves). Despite hating Microsoft for years, I'm starting to trust them a bit more than Google. The new engine isn't half bad. It has a lot of flaws, but I'm definitely seeing more traffic from it than the old engine. So I start to use it maybe one fourth of the time.
I use Bing all the time, I only use Google to see how my sites are doing in the serps. When it came to choosing between google and Microsoft I decided to go with the less evil company.
I didn't like bing at first, but after I set it as my homepage and default search for a week to try it out I loved it!. I still end up typing in google.com from time to time due to habbit .
I am starting to migrate completely to Bing as the evil skynet (Google) cannot be trusted. Heck look at your Gmail trash bin; No conversations in the Trash. Who needs to delete when you have over 2000 MB of storage?! Then when Google Voice comes out imagine the information they will control/manage. It's quite mind boggling as to the amount of power they currently embody in such a short corporate life span. Just my 2c
BING never did wonders for me regarding my traffic. But I've seen many quoting that BING has started sending more traffic than google. But no luck for me yet.
Here is a little test for all of you.... Looking at your site stats, figure out what the average page views are for visitors coming from Google vs the visitors coming from Bing. I have done this test twice using ten sites for the data. Each time bing visitors average more page views, more time, and just more engagement with the site. To me, that equals Bing is better....why I still use Google primarily, I will never know...I find I do use bing more often though.
I've noticed the exact same thing as you, camp185, I run both ecommerce sites as well as a variety of blog/entertainment sites, the bing users on a whole do exactly what you said, they visit deeper and visit longer. Plus the click-to-sale ratio from Bing users is remarkable, the majority completing sales; and I haven't even thought about implementing the 'Bing Cashback' feature... What I interpret this to mean is that the users of bing who find your site actually want to see your site and are truly interested in the site's content, no duh. I think this has to do with the age range and demographic for the bing users. Compared to Gen X and Y who grew up 'Googling' they are a more of a indecisive bunch, low attention span, etc. This is a generalization of course, but for the most part it's true in my experience. The people who use bing are, from my research, middle age and up. It appears that Bing is actually delivering the content that its users want to see. Go figure.
I don't get any hits from Bing really, and I can justify it by knowing that I hardly ever thing of Bing. I doubt it has even half of the user base the Google commands. I find it to be useless when it stands in such a big shadow (Google).
