There was a time when Web Design was Expensive, now you can get it done for under $100 The same is happening with SEO. The real value of SEO is been affected. A good point! It is really affected. I do believe that SEO won't die, but it may evolve or degrade. The idea is that in theory SEO practices seem easy to do, and a lot of freelancers learn some basic things and start their 'businesses', while their clients loose money and reputation because of poor SEO technics. As I see it, the future of SEO will be like: Everyone who owns a site will do on-page/off-page by their selves and we'll have a huge bunch of awful optimised sites, and no one will care =)
well good seo will be always important, anyway sites will always need seo because google and other search engines will not know how to make a difference between websites..

SEO is complicated. SEO is for long terms and time consuming. SEO is for free advertising. If you would like to promote a product fast, PPC is for you and not SEO. Just my 2 cents!
