Forums are a great source for traffic if you post in a topic related forum as moaid123 says if its a game site post in a game forum.

Not only will a forum help get visitors but they also help with your backlinks to the site.

Right Fatabbot. If you join Ryze, there are tons of networks. Most allow an introduction thread where you can talk about your business. Also, most of them have ad days where you can post an ad, and of course you can put a link in your signature. I have gotten ALOT of traffic from Ryze.

It all depends on the forum and if they dont allow links in posts then I dont waste my time posting on that forum.

Find a good forum that allows links and become a trusted a member, kinda like here with DP.

The link in your sig should be sufficient.

Participate and be part of the community. If you are viewed as a trusted and reliable source and an expert then you will even have people send you private messages, when you reply to them you can send them links.

Also if you helpmost of the time then nearly every forum, no matter how strict the rules don't mind you posting a link in your posts (generally when you answer questions not when you start a thread) as long as it is only done about one in three messages.

One in three! I don't think many forums would tolerate that if you became a regular poster.

I think the trick is to read the rules/FAQ, lurk long enough to assess the general temper of the forum, and post something on-topic. There is so much variation in forum rules, you can't really say that one thing will or won't be acceptable, because it just depends on the moderators. It can be anything from a draconion policy of no self-promotion whatsoever, to a total free-for-all.

Hi fatabbot. You should promote your site in your signature. I see that you have more than 80 posts here, yet you have no signature.

I use forums almost exclusively to promote some of my offers. I've been very successful with it. Especially in non-internet marketing related niches until recently.

Forum sites rock for traffic but becareful of sites that have really public "punishment" sytems for SPAM becuase spam is very subjective. I posted a direct answer to a question regarding on of my programs (no affiliate link) and I was punished for SPAM becuase I was "promoting my program". So becareful with it becuase after all are you or anyone else going to trust someone who is publically seen as a spammer?

If the forum has a problem with you posting links:
    1. Create a tasteful signature, (in phpBB use the 'large' font with a color that contrasts the background of the forum, that way it stands out, you would be surprised how well this works.
    2. Look for threads where the 'reply' count is high, participate (post something relevant) in those threads.
    3. Wait for the traffic from people seeing your signature.

How many forums do some of you belong too? I can't imagine getting that many hits from a forum.

I put my links in my signature, and by being an active member of alot of forum I sort of get the word out about my company and brand "Andreas Bard".

    I would recommend it.
