I am agree with you. Submitting same article in many directories may cause google to penalize as considering this spam.

a little change & then submitting to many directories will help you more in SEO.

It's kinda true that submitting similar articles content and title will get google to see it as duplication.
It's also true that how google checks duplication is always a myth and mystery.

My question next is how much do you tweak your original unique article to submit to directories.
    Eg.
You created a UNIQUE article for your own website and decided to submit to article directories.
You would want to tweak and spin a little here and there to avoid duplication before submitting.
How much changes do you make for each submission?

1 - change synonyms for title and 1st line of every paragraph? eg. "it's wonderful / it's great / it's cool"
2 - change synonyms for title and only the 1st line of all paragraph? juz incase google checks every paragraph?
3 - change synonyms for title and only the 1st paragraph? because google checks 1st few hundred words?
4 - change synonyms for title and all possible phrases in all paragraphs?
5 - restructure the sentence of title and all possible phrase in all paragraph? basically a full rewrite

I kinda rank them in terms of difficulty.
For me I do all 1-4 depending on how important and complicated that article is.
What's your preference or which do you usually do?

I've even heard from somewhere mentioning duplicated content is quite hard to detect by google as different website having the same article have different HTML codes around them and the formatting is very different.

Personally I don't quite believe in that, as it's kinda easy to find exact duplicates by just Googling some exact unique sentences from the article with quotes. You will be able to find duplicates. It's just the matter of HOW Google detects it programmatically, by their GoogleBot.

I agree to 100%. I submit the article to many sites... I get traffic from the same articles from many of the directories and sometimes rankings for the same one as well. I wouldn't worry too much about the duplicate stuff...

It's just if your OWN SITE only consists of the same content over and over again... That's not good and I can vouch for that not being good... Bad, bad.

A whole site I made (all with copy/paste articles) from affiliate resource areas etc has 0 indexed pages like, 7 months later.. while 1 unique article can get me ranked in a few days.
