I would like to know about your thinking about directories requiring reciprocal links. Do you sometimes do the exchange?
Until now I never submitted to directories that need reciprocal links. The person's site were I submit for does not like those links on his site.
I never submitted to directories that need reciprocal links. The whole idea of you submitting to a directory is to get the one way link back to your site.
I've traded reciprocals with niche directories that were very well respected. Those links helped my SERPs substantially for some inner pages on my sites. I never trade links with a general directory simply because I don't feel they are related closely enough to my sites.
A quality directory of directories might get me to submit with a recip requirement but that's about it. Reciprocal links should be about mutual admiration not payback.
Good point here, there are more and more directories proposing a top listing within their system and submitting to them might be useful for traffic don't you think? More than just a listing, you might get visitors in return of your recip. Anyone using these type of directories?
Many consider a required recip the same thing as a paid directory. There is more than a little evidence that Google feels the same way. Having a top listing on a directory only matters for traffic if they have a good quality site that draws non-submitting traffic.
A reciprocal link is a form of payment. Paying money for review is better than paying with a reciprocal link. There are plenty of free directories and some good paid directories as well.
