I can understand the possible loss of traffic; that's one of the reasons we don't have ads/links on details pages - we try to send the traffic to those who are listed in our directory.

I think the bottom line is that we as submiters don't own the details pages and have only paid for a review or inclusion within the index. I understand the concerns about the addition of these links after the fact. As I mentioned above, I tend to avoid directories that do have a number of links on the details pages.

Thanks for briinging this up; hope others will share some more opinions.

Actually it should not be an issue ...

Link juice on detail pages is relatively minor in most directories ... mainly because those pages only have a single inbound link. The "more details" link next to your listing.

In most cases PR is choked off and you are really not losing anything.

The other problem is if the page only contains your details the search engines treat them as stub pages (not enough content) or worse duplicate content (exact match to content found in the directory). Both situations will result in the pages being moved to the supplemental index.

Check and see how many directories actually have indexed details pages.

So it may be better to have additional content on those details pages. ;)

If the extra links are related to the main link, you even have co-citation value :)

I don't have to check - I know my details pages are indexed.

But, I have often thought about their long term value and have been considering implementing something that adds more content to them and might help them gain a bit more value for the listed site. Maybe some day, when I have a hundred or so hours to spare, I'll fix that. :D
