Do you need a partner?

Just wondering do you really need a partner to start your own internet marketing? I've actually started internet marketing with a partner and although we pushed each other hard, the profits are very little.

Right now we can just outsource most of the work and only focus on certain aspects, and with a partner, it might be unnecessary. I know JV is important, but a partner?

So do you really need a partner? are u successful in internet marketing with a partner or without it?

It's up to you. If you work better alone or don't like to share, don't bother with a partner.

If you (and your partner) like the idea of having someone to share the workload with and don't mind sharing the work and the earnings, then there is no reason not to have a partner.

I personally don't partner with people on any project. If I need help I'll just pay for it... if I can't pay and can't do it alone, I won't bother. I know that partnerships can turn sour quickly and that usually leads to an otherwise good friendship (business or personal) disolving along with the business venture.

    Cheers.

I'm working alone, but there are times when I think I would do a better job with a partner

    It depends.
I need a partner because I am not the richest of people, and so don't have the funds to start off anything big. Also I'm a student, so a lot of my time is taken up by that.
Although if you have the money and a little time, I'm sure you're well on the path to success - I mean what's the point of paying a partner if you don't need one?

funding and partners are different things.

i dont like sharing profits but i do need funding.

i pay for work when i can but it is getting to the stage where i need to get some real funding and setup a company instead of just arsing around wioth a few websites.

i need 250,000 and i can make a load of money

i know this but you just need someone who believes in you i guess.

time to make a business plan and aproach the bank or angel investors

The best way is probably to outsource various tasks that you need. If you like to work with another persn because you think youl will do better that ways or will get bored in working by ytourself, then I think you might better off working with someone else.

The thing is you can't do this alone if you plan on bringing in a substantial income. There is just too much to learn, the best thing to do is stick with your strengths and outsource everything else. I never try to make my own graphics, or do php scripting.

The time it would take to learn is not worth it. I have hundreds of partners, ranging from hosting resellers, graphic designers, ad copy writers, programmers, other list owners, etc. You have to make the connections to succeed. And be willing to share profit to make things come together.

I still stick by the statement that "anything worth having is worth working for." The majority of people seeking partnerships are lacking something from their end. Either the determination to see the project succeed (lazy) or they simply don't have funds for their ideas and looking for an investor. Either way, you are putting yourself in a bad situation. I would highly recommend sitting down and thinking about the long term investment. Ask yourself these questions repeatedly... how bad do you want it? What are your goals? What route can you take to achieve the goals? If you don't have these three questions answered you should go back to step one of setting up a business plan, it doesn't have to be a lot, but you should not cut corners in the setup of a business... it will come back to bite you later. Bringing in a partner is sometimes considered "cutting corners".

I'm also wondering the same thing... I probably need some more opinions :)
I personally don't like profits, and yeah, as the above said, need more cash to promote...? :-/

If i can put my 5c in I have had a partner for a few years and although we don't always see eye to eye, I think we are much better off in the long run. However I don't follow the edict that we should work on the same thing, I believe a good partnership is one where your weaknesses are augmented by the other and you are able to reciprocate. I am able to perform programming tasks but my artistic ability is seriously flawed.

Thanks for everyone's response and reply.

I guess for internet marketing, it'll be good to outsource most of the stuff. And perhaps partnering isn't necessary.

I'm quite sick of my partner.. always conflicting with different ideas and strategies. Sometimes it's like a tiring relationship. Oh well, but it's a journey of a good learning experience.

at the initial stage when i started my online job work, i used to think that working alone is always good. But soon this image has been broken, most of the time you require a person on whom you can rely on and have full trust. If both the person are tech enough, i think you can break all the barriers.

yes, life make you learn a lot. i had the similar exp. since that day i took an oath, that i'll have not partner anymore. but now as times goes off, i realize, we need a partner but we have to be more careful while selecting a partner.

    JVs are always profitable. :)

Partnership works only if all parties are team player.
Otherwise you never know where it will take you.
