Do you need a google api key for weight?

I'm still a little confused about the weight issue. It seems like a catch 22 for a new site owner like me.

My site has no PR yet, and I'm just getting started on getting links back to my site. So with no PR and not a lot of links yet how will I ever get a better weight factor. I know adding pages helps but with my subject, bad breath there is only so much you can write about.

The other issue is the google api key, do you need one to calculate weight? From what I have been reading on the forum it looks like I may need it?

    Thanks,

    Ted

You only "have" to have a Google API key if you want to validate manually.

It's very easy, and cost you nothing to get it.

I tried to apply for an API, but it keeps sending me back to the sign in page.

It's doing the same thing to me.. I don't have an API key so I figured I'd sign up. However, I already have a Google login and used that. Are you using an account that already exists? Maybe it has to be unique. Still, I have a feeling it needs to be connected one way or another and I'm not sure I should create a separate account for this...

This DP forum is huge! I just found a forum for the Google API, so I guess I'll take my questions there. Thanks
