I'm sharing some of my favorite memories, and tried to 'target age groups.' Please, don't feel like am looking for detailed answers. What are some of your good memories? Thanks ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ Are you a Rocker? What are some of your favorite memories? A) General question for all age groups B) If you are: -under ~25 years old -about 25 to 35 years old -over ~35 years old ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ A) General question for all age groups Who are one or two musical artists or groups you do not really like very much (wouldn't pay to see in concert, or buy their CD's), but were able to put out a single song (or two) which you really like? Here are three of mine: Don't like the bands very much, but Love the one song Tom Petty "Running Down A Dream" The long guitar solo at the end of this song, is 'truly insprired, and way above average.' Aerosmith "Dream On" "...Dream On, Dream On, dream until your dream come true..." Van Halen "Dreams" "...and in the end on dreams we will depend 'cause that's what Love is made of" What are a couple of your all-time favorite songs, and do you also generally like the group or not? ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ B) If you are: -under ~25 years old -about 25 to 35 years old -over ~35 years old If you are under ~25 years old Have you joined the thousands of other young people who 'discovered' what is now called 'Classic Rock'? What are some of your favorite old bands? Do you like modern music festivals? Not just the huge ones, like Bonnaroo, but smaller ones too? Do you actually like Rap music? Why?, isn't Rap noisy awful, stupid garbage (much woarse than anything my parents might have thought was "noisy awful, stupid garbage")? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you are about 25 to 35 years old Why did Kurt Cobian get "called a legend" so quickly? Killing yourself shouldn't make you a hero, do you think his band was really that great? Why? Shannon H (Blind Melon) will never get called a 'legend or Rock God' (the way some 'worship' Cobian), but did you ever hear Blind Melon's first major release (~1992 or '93)? They had, IMO, much more depth, variety, qualtity and meaning to their music than Nirvana ever did. Sadly, Shannon H. (Hoon?) also killed himself, after finally getting successful. Did you see the original Lollapalooza touring festival in ~1991? And / or did you ever see Jane's Addiction live during their best years (1991-1995)? Their lead singer has (had) sooooo much energy, the band was very diverse in style and appereance, and they could be called one of the best live shows ever (at the original Lalapallooza touring festivals) Did anyone here see, and remember that show? ~~~~~~~~~~~ If you are over ~35 years old IMO, mid-'80's Rock (Poison, Quiet Riot, etc) can't compare to what came "before my time." The late 60's to mid 70's is the peak of great rock bands. What are some of your old favorites, and are you "hip to the fact" many bands were even much better before getting famous? Kansas, for example, put out several great albums prior to their 'masterpiece' called "Leftoverture". After that, they were doomed to put out 'pop crap' in failed attempts to get more huge hit songs. IMO, early Genesis is very similar with unique high-quality early works, and total 100% 'pop crap' in their later years Did you ever hear a live tape of Derek and The Dominoes (Eric Clapton with some other 'famous' people)? What about Brian Auger? (this is even lesser-known, but a great live keyboard player) Ever see Led Zepplin? (I'm a bit too young to have had a chance) Pink Floyd? (saw them in the late 80's, but that's not the same) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Did you ever see Peter Gabriel? (1985 to ~1994 when he ended every show with a very emotional 'audience participation song' called 'Biko') "...you can blow out a spark, but you can't blow out a fire, once the flames begin to catch, The wind will take it higher" It's a simple, very powerful song about caring enough to believe your actions can make a positive impact in this world. He always left the audience singing for 3 to 5 minutes after he left the stage. Great stuff. ~~~~~~~~~ Are you a Rocker? What are some of your favorite memories?
I was just to write down something about Pearl Jam and Iron Maiden shows but this one sentence killed my will for writing I think I'll never write this long post Yes, I consider myself a Rocker
Here's a short response lol: Yes I'm a rocker, I love rock music I eat, breathe and drink rock ha. Live music memory would be seeing Metric live! Awesome show... the bass just made my whole vocal box vibrate and ears ringing for days lol
Nothing tops a live show by 311!!!!!! Getting to see them on March 11th is icing on the cake. I've done that 3 times. Shannon Hoon was great. Did you notice that was Lisa Loeb singing duet with him in Mouthful of cavities? Did you hear the rumors of Axel Rose taking his spot after his death? What crap! Of course I went to Lalapallooza, I went to a great one (~93) with Body Count, P-Funk, Alice in Chains, etc., but sadly the narcotics make me forget most of the experience. No, unfortunatly I never got to see Jane's Addiction but I did check out Porno For Pyros (Perry's other project). Tons of energy but he is no Nick Hexum!
ZEPPELIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I too was just a bit too young to see them in their glory. But... I saw Plant in '84 with Phil Collins on Drums, and I saw Page/Plant tour in '95 (awesome - 'Song Remains the Same sounded like the old days) Other memorable concerts: OZZY - Diary of a Madman Tour, Rush, Kiss (with and without makeup)...
My brain thinks really fast. The time is lost trying to make my thoughts into something everone else can understand (to 'clean up' the writing) I had plenty of years to 'dumb down some', and live music is still some of my best memories. Thanks all
Listening to CD compared with live show is like driving a toy car rather than the real one For example, the last time I put Metallica CD in my player was some 2 years ago. I just can't listen to it anymore. BUT, I can't wait to see the concert...
