i downloaded 4.0 and am now using it. its a lot different from any other versions.. does anybody else like it? whats the advantage?? i just dont know if i can get use to it.. its just odd.. what are some good mods to use for it??
gosh i hate it, i will just give it time but 3.8 is still looking better, it doesn't have hacks or plugins ready.. it's consuming too much on my database side, don't know how.. it doesn't have styles, just changing colors i really hate it
I'm still up in the air as to whether or not I like it... however, I am not all that happy with many of the changes to the license and how the vB team are dealing with things. I was also not all that thrilled with the number of bugs in the GOLD release...
It's still beta quality software in my opinion. They can call it 4.0.1x all they want, but it's still 4.0.x beta x in my mind. If you just think (in your own mind) that 4.1.0 is going to be the first real "gold" release, it's much better (that's how I think of it). 4.0.x is beta, 4.1.x is prime time. That being said, 4.0.x was never supposed to bring new features, instead just lay the internal groundwork for 4.1.x and beyond. Hopefully they get all the bugs worked out before 4.1.0 is released.
Yeah everywhere i have heard says its buggy....so i will wait too.... Seems like a poor move on managements side releasing it that early. Vbulletin has always been the best, so right now im gonna patiently wait. -C
To be honest I really dislike vB4 from what I have seen so far. I read somewhere that Invision Power (developers of IPB) bought Jelsoft (developers of vBulletin)? I think they've basically thrown vBulletin down the toilet with this new release. They don't seem to realize that 99.9% of people who buy forum software want a forum, not a social networking empire. The layout is terrible as well. Urgh. I hope a group of coders form who release unofficial patches to deal with security issues so that we can keep vb3.8 for years. If this doesn't happen we're screwed.
Well vb4 started totally wrong i mean with the new pricing.. they shouldnt have over charged ppl for an unready software
I upgraded my site (pretty small, about 15K users) to vB before Christmas. The upgrade actually went smoother than I expected. vBulletin 4 has LOTS OF POTENTIAL. But it has some things that are a serious pain right now. I have the Suite, and 90% of my issues are with the suite. The new search, that they've re-written the algorithm for, pretty much sucks. Good reason to put a google adsense search in its place though
I am loving vB 4.0.1 over here. So far, everything has gone smoothly... and the problems that have arisen get fixed rather easily. Point of Note: My forum has under 1,000 users, and under 10,000 posts I would reckon. Not very big (11 months old). Point of Note2: My plugins initially were not a lot. I have found that all developers are supporting vB4 enthusiastically. I'm running this, which got support like 2-3 days after vB launch: VaultWiki -- very nice integration of MediaWiki Plugins I suggest that I am running at the moment: Tabs for vBulletin -- This one I found essential. It is for adding the "Tabs" at the top of the stock installation. At the moment, there is no easy way to add/remove/edit those navigation tabs (all that subset is properly called Nav_Bar in vBspeak). What this plugin allows you to do is just add/edit within the vB Admin CP. Without this plug-in, you have to do it manually within the code. Not impossible, yet certainly not easy. Here is a reference thread for how to add tabs manually -- How to Add Buttons? =========== =========== This is a piece of code, very easy to put in the template, that gives you a google Maps window inside a post. Just like that! Scroll up/down zoom in/out Terrain/Satellite/Map etc. Google Maps by Yo Bro Mo Fo http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=234318 ====== There are two PDFs I strongly recommed and high light in bold that you download. Download them here (( the two PDFs... I don't know what the .zip is )) With the Skinning Forum Steps PDF, if you follow it, in 30 minutes you'll have the forums with your logo, header background and colors. The Visual Dictionary PDF is extremely useful. Scroll down and quickly review its contents... When you want to change a color or font, you just visually look for it in that PDF, and you have the variable's name. Easy peasy Hope that helps! ===== There is also a IRC vBulletin nonOfficial channel @ #vbChat on freenode
I am very disappointed with vB4.0 - I hate it.. it looks like like a total different forum system. I personally won't be upgrading to 4.0.
so here is my ?.. if i am running 4.0 now, there is no way i can go back and use 3.8 and stop using 4.0?
I really hate vb4! Looks disgusting compared to all earlier versions of VBB!! A couple sites i am on have gone VB4 and i havent really visited them since,I FIGURE IT THEY PUT THAT CRAP ON THIER.THEY DONT VALUE THIER SITE OR ANYONE ELSE!! (They dont care that what they had before WAS MUCH BETTER (People have lost thier concept of whats GOOD and its sad))
I like the direction that internet brands is going with vbulletin, I just dont like vb 4, or the way it looks. Over the past few years, the vbulletin project has grown stale with no major additions or real changes. When customers were begging jelsoft for a content management system, management turned a deaf ear. I figure that vbulletin is around 4 years behind the times, maybe more. Its going to take a lot of work to play catchup to current internet trends. I'am probably not going to install vb 4 on any of my sites until at least 4.1 is released. And then I'am going to wait for some feed back before I install that version. With the way things are going, it might be May, June or July 2010 before I install any version of vb 4 on my sites.
Of course its alot different! They told us it will be a "new product" and it is! I like it ALOT! I kinda regret upgrading though lol. Im used to it,, i don't like the style var system at all........ For mods see here http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=245&daysprune=-1&order=desc&sort=installs Sorting the mods with the most installs to least.
It looks a lot like I remember IPB looking... am I mistaken, or maybe it's just that is what DP new skin is set up to look like... *sigh* I picked vB over IPB because I didn't like the way it looked/felt and now it seems I have to ponder as to which is better again on an entirely new level.... I do look foreward to 4.1.0 though, so they can work out a few more of the bugs.
