SAN FRANCISCO (News Bulletin Board) - With an upgrade to its mobile maps, Google Inc. hopes to prove it can track people on the go as effectively as it searches for information on the Internet. The new software to be released Wednesday will enable people with mobile phones and other wireless devices to automatically share their whereabouts with family and friends. The feature, dubbed “Latitude,†expands upon a tool introduced in 2007 to allow mobile phone users to check their own location on a Google map with the press of a button. Very cool feature, but at the same time very disturbing. Basically Google can track any cell phone user's whereabouts. Are they a search engine or the cia?
Heheh true, in a sense, however the CIA wouldn't need software to be run, or permissions so to speak, to allow them to track a cell phone. I'm quite sure Google wouldn't allow just anyone to find out where a certain cell number is, which of course would be unlawful.
